two sources that originated the allegations claiming that Russia meddled in the 2016 election without providing convincing evidence were both paid for by the Democratic National Committee, and in one instance also by the Clinton campaign: the Steele dossier and the CrowdStrike analysis of the DNC servers...

...the DNC did not allow the FBI to examine its computer server for clues about who may have hacked it or even if it was hacked and instead turned to CrowdStrike, a private company co-founded by a virulently anti-Putin Russian. Within a day, CrowdStrike blamed Russia on dubious evidence.

if Trump regresses any further, he'll seem young enough for Roy Moore to ask out.

I can't tell whether this shit belongs in this thread or the one about religion anymore. :D From The Washington Post:

Roy Moore allegations prompt reflections on fundamentalist culture in which some Christian men date teens

The Soup Nazi 11.14.2017 05:18 PM

Now this is just straight outta House Of Cards:

How the Roy Moore scandal could help President Trump fire Robert Mueller
Replacing Moore with Jeff Sessions could have unexpected consequences.

what you wrote above looks interesting and pretty well thought-out, but this line at the end points to a missing piece in your analysis:

yes, sure, there is an obvious class phenomenon, but there is also a sizeable immoral racial bigot block among trump voters. trump didn’t appeal to working class voters on the basis of class interests alone.

just like you point out to various blocks within the democratic voters (multiculturalist, gender feminists, those who favor neoliberal economics), you need to recognize that among trump voters there are several unholy alliances and his candidacy was not *just* a class phenomenon.

it’s class + other things.

for your second draft, if you’re going to be serious at achieving some measure of objectivity, you need to find what those “other things” are, and give them an honest look.

eta: bernie also offered class + other things, but he didn’t make it to the general election, and so maybe it’s not so crucial to see what else he had there. if it had been a trump vs. bernie contest then yes.

!@#$%! 11.15.2017 03:33 PM

i didn’t say what he says does not matter, but bernie’s brand of populism is very very very very very very very very very! different from el trumpo’s.

it’s a perverse conflation you’re making.

both fed on the same discontent but made very different offers to the public.

haven’t got a chance to read your linked editorial yet.

Kirsten Gillibrand comes out moments after the story breaks to say Al Franken's behavior is "deeply disturbing" and that she believes accuser.

And she's one of his biggest allies in the Senate!

I'm torn. The news of Al Franken makes me doubt my perceptions of people.

Yet that was such a decent move on Gllibrand's part that I can't help but admire her.

Am I just asking for trouble? Is a story about her gonna break in a few days? Maybe it's safest to not admire any public figure at all ever.

humans are a horny species and act inappropriately from time to time.

cultural norms exist to put some sort of control on these urges.

baby boomers were *the worst* at self-control. they preached—and practiced—that it was bad to be “uptight about sex”.

as the culture changes, norms change, some things become permissible and others become forbidden.

right now it’s intifada time.

but last year i got groped at a party and i liked it— don’t slut shame me.

!@#$%! 11.16.2017 01:02 PM

ps for further evidence see popular cultural products from the past such as:

M.A.S.H.
Animal House
Revenge of the Nerds
Blade Runner (1982)
etc.

oh yes we were talking about “manhattan” the other day

all “funny” or “great” in their time but highly reprehensible by today’s standards

ilduclo 11.16.2017 02:27 PM

lotsa drugs and male privilege back in those days. I imagine Belushi was a pretty bad influence.

What the fuck. This is the most frustrating news I've read in weeks. It's pretty clear Trump has no respect whatsoever for the natural world, which is very depressing indeed for a country with the USA's political clout.

ilduclo 11.16.2017 03:00 PM

yeah, his 2 dickish sons are trophy hunters. Trumps is assholes all the way down, including the littlest ones.

The Soup Nazi 11.16.2017 03:23 PM

GodfuckingDAMMIT, not Al Franken... FUCK! :(

don’t kid yourself, the women too

i used to know a prof who would let grad students live in her basement, used them for labor, fucked them, rinse, repeat

it’s not about gender but power— whoever has power uses it for sex

evollove 11.16.2017 04:11 PM

Yes and no.

Imagine if we lived in a word where all gender roles were flipped, a matriarchy. This would still happen, but less frequently. There is something fundamentally fucked in the male mind.

please. let’s stop with the liberal bullshit that only men abuse their power/position/money to fuck.

it’s fucking bullshit.

*bullshit*

evollove 11.16.2017 04:29 PM

I didn't say ONLY. I said MORE.

To abuse power sexually is human.

To abuse power sexually A LOT is male.

“more”. who cares? so do you get a free pass?

“hey i only killed 9 people but that one there— he killed more!”

i’ve been gay-groped several times in my life and aside for the nervous giggles and discomfort the episodes didn’t leave me permanently scarred. i rejected the advances and that was it. i took them as a simple social interaction. after that happened i didn’t go out screaming condemning “gays”

the women who took advantage of me on the other hand were less direct but more devious, manipulative, persistent and exploitative. they actually got me to fuck them and pressured me in serious ways when i wanted to stop. massive nightmares.

i don’t give any gender the benefit of the doubt. or the culture in general. people are generally fuckers. they can all go fuck themselves.

here read some fucking science
