Death poems for the living gods of America

Mystic album from the first to the last track, I regret not seeing Sy live in NYCG+F tour, it would have been fabolous but they didn't go to Italy in 2000

Hello People,

I first bought NYC Flowers and Ghosts four years ago on cassette and did not get anything out of it. However, I recently bought it about a month ago and am loving it. Nevermind is a great track as it Side 2 Side.

Having bout that and 1000 leaves around the same time I can say that I much prefer NYCFlowers and Ghosts. If anyone can recommend any other recordings similar to NYC Floers and Ghosts outside the standard SY albums I would greatly appreciate....

this album along with bad moon and sister are probebly my favourite sonic youth records. i instantly fell in love with this record.

for more stuff like this, i dont know try the syr's.

I hated this album when I first got it and didnt listen to it at all for at least a year or two. Then I decided to go back and give it another try and many of the tracks have kind of grown on me. Although it still isn't anywhere close to being one of my favorite SY records, I have come to appreciate it a little more than I used to.

...NYCG&F...well now...what can I say...wasn't sure at first...took time...heard some of the songs on a live bootleg...that made me listen to the LP more...now I really appreciate it...'Small Flowers Crack Concrete' is a classic...so is 'StreamXSonic Subway'...now I'm very fond of it...in my top five SY LP's...

Well it seems we are in agreement on two things, NYCG&F being a terrific record (better than Murray Street in my opinion..yes I said it!) and the awesomeness of The Smashing Pumpkins (im the biggest Pumpkinhead on the planet...or on this board anyway lol). Its about time this album got the recognition it deserves.....Damn Pitchfork! Perhaps if it had a better cover! As fickle as it maybe, SY records with intresting covers seem to do better. (Daydream Nation and Bad Moon Rising are two examples of this)

The Dicrenzio review on pitchfork ultimately destroyed his credibility, and got himself fired after some thoughts on the Beastie Boys let were loose

you live and learn, and you learn that from derogatis to dicrenzio, you don't take shit from chicago seriously

I always liked it since I got it. I want to hear it now.

ZEROpumpkins 11.04.2006 07:17 PM

Well it appears this thread has fufilled it's purpose then.

Washing Machine 11.05.2006 07:50 AM

Okay its not a bad cover, but its not half as iconic and striking as some of SY's album covers!

jon boy 11.05.2006 12:25 PM

i love the cover and i rally like the back with the floers. some of kims artwork is in there too and it looks great.

nicfit 11.05.2006 04:55 PM

i think it's my favourite sy cover to date.

RanaldoNecro 10.18.2008 09:41 AM

I love the album...Free City is the shit

[Sandbag] 10.18.2008 11:14 AM

that guy at pitchfork must be one of those i've become really really harsh with my years and years of critics who gets a hard on at the thought of typing in a 0.0 in the rating box. he doesn't even deserve the right to own a pen.

not really... just wanted to get that off my chest...

i dont know... 0 dot 0 its quite disrespectful to all of the people who really appreciate the music, or the poetry or whatever the fuck they find in that album. 'i dont like it' might be better.
for me its quite a 8/9 out of 10. luv it..

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 10.18.2008 11:15 AM

I love this album. it is one of the best. It captures a certain feeling behind other sonic youth music and puts it at the front of the sound. I think this album is the beginning of the "dead" approach to music by sonic youth.
