For me it would have to be Contre Le Sexisme or J'Accuse Ted Hughes.

But I'm sure that these choices would scare away that interested person... oh well.

You'd show them two of the most indulgent pieces of trash the band has ever recorded?

EVOLghost 06.17.2009 06:23 AM

THe DIamond Sea or Expressway to Yr Skull

This Is Not Here 06.17.2009 06:26 AM

Anti-Orgasm, actually. Good dose of Kim and Thurston bliss, sublimely crap lyrics, sexy edge, noisey inprovised outro - and lots more things that define Sonic Youth very well.

Alexander 06.17.2009 01:39 PM

The Sprawl

To you "indulgent pieces of trash"...

To me defining masterpieces.

Even though it's such a recent track, I really feel that Massage the History defines who they been and will continue to be as a band.

Other than that - Expressway to Yr Skull. Hands down, Kotton Krown, Trilogy

Dead-Air 06.25.2009 12:12 AM

"Santa Doesn't Cop Out On Dope" for the win!

anyway.

if a person who'd never heard SY asked you what they sounded like, and you could only play them one track, which one would you choose?

Kotton K-Rrrrrrown.

FreshChops 06.25.2009 12:33 AM

Love this question...... I always think about this and have to say, it's impossible to narrow down because the beauty of SY is that they cover so many moods and intensities. But, I digress..... If I had to coin it, it'd be either:

•*Teenage Riot

or

• Schizophrenia

but I'd also consider some songs that involve their signature building wall of sound with dual'ing, climbing octaves as only SY do:
Theresa's Sound World; Washing Machine; Radical Adults Lick....; Dirty Boots; Expressway; etc.......

MARKJONES 10.21.2009 12:17 AM

Chapel Hill or Pattern Recognition

I'd go with Diamond Sea. Melodic yet noisy and long. SYR meets Geffen. Or something like that.

Tom Violence or Star Power, has the fun with the dark

chicka 01.12.2010 10:48 AM

Goo was the first CD I bought and Mote was the song that I could not stop playing. That's the song that hooked me. Within a month I had six SY CD's

EXACTLY how it started for me. my next song was cross the breeze

DanielCarlson 01.13.2010 02:53 PM

'Cross The Breeze, Mote or Schizophrenia probably. Those are great for introducing purposes.

skiles 01.13.2010 11:50 PM

Dirty Boots.

SONIC GAIL 01.14.2010 08:59 AM

Star field Lane

barry swedgin 01.15.2010 05:03 PM

Sunday or Anagrama.

Guest Informant 01.17.2010 02:11 PM

Total Trash - very under-rated track, great tune split up with dissonance.

Toilet & Bowels 01.17.2010 07:18 PM

surprised there haven't been more nominations for expressway as it's pretty much the sonic youth theme tune, second choice would be schizophrenia

Leetdude 01.23.2010 12:02 PM

Silver Rocket, Expressway, or if I wanna go off-beat and Lee, Paper Cup Exit.

BeltofVenus 01.30.2010 03:11 AM

Xpressway or She's in a Bad Mood
