it takes a little patience.. it has cultural value, and in time it will become far more valuable..

i would hold on tight to those worn out vhs tapes...

schizophrenicroom 05.03.2006 08:26 PM

seeing thurston's ass is the best part of the movie.

krastian 05.03.2006 09:11 PM

I want you to get down and pray for rock bay-bee!

I've watched the entire video thorugh like 10 times. I really should buy this thing. I just borrow it from a friend when I want to watch it. but it's totally worth it. Every dime.

I think that it is already on DVD

Not legally but I'm sure some assclown has ripped it to dvd and is selling it for 30+ bucks. Wasn't their some sort of licensing issue that prevented it from coming out on DVD (mainly involving the nirvana footage)? I remember word they were going to put out a DVD with a bunch of extra footage but rights prevented them from doing so.

TYPB is the only reason i still have a VCR.

Fox 05.04.2006 11:26 AM

they must do subtitles in french ! :D

Actually it was the Ramones' "Commando" performance that they had problems with but it has since been taken care of. But I can't imagine a SY fan not owning 1991:TYPB.

I'm sure that it will be released. I saw the 20 to thirty extra minutes of footage and it's amazing (Dave actually leant me a copy some time ago). I also know for a fact that soundboard recordings in perfect quality exist of that European tour (hehe). I, myself, don't have a copy of any of the shows on cassette, but I do know someone who does and he's not releasing them until Sonic Youth wants him to.

Anyways, Sonic Youth should put out like a five cd/dvd box set of outtakes (including b-sides, demos, live rarities, compilation and soundtrack tracks, etc.) and why the fuck not? There is so much material that not even a five cd box set could cover it!

I saw it at Markey's screening when he toured over here in October 05. It's better than TYPB. I loved it.

PAULYBEE2656 11.12.2006 03:51 AM

there is a protest site on myspace. click on my link below and its on my front page. universal still sitting on thedvds. seemingly they are ready to go for ages and universal wont release em.

Kyohan 11.12.2006 06:09 PM

This tour is still the best SY show I ever saw.

RanaldoNecro 11.12.2006 08:31 PM

Yes, The Year Punk Broke is fabulous. I do remember when it came out and Thurston's performance is magnificant. Very funny. In fact the one interview when he says he is going to the stage with what looks like a guitar pedal in his hand is too funny

Maybe the band are holding out on releasing the DvD, well because,... Oh nevermind.
