Daycare, would you rate, say, Swimsuit Issue or Sugar Kane as better songs than Dude Ranch Nurse or Pink Steam?

max 06.14.2006 02:11 AM

Why the fuck don't you just guys enjoy the fucking music? It's mother fucking Sonic Youth for fuck's sake... they only release 100%-royal-tuff-titty-approved items so clear your minds already.

The first three SYR's are the best.

Jim O'Rourke ruined NYC Ghosts and Flowers.

Goo and Dirty are both better than Sister.

Daydream Nation is overrated.

Most of the early Sonic Youth is not really as good as people say it is.

You are slowly sinking into insanity.

Okay--but my statement was directed at forensic, so I don't really care how long you guys have been listening.

The logic in my statement is that if one listens for a longer time, he or she has more time to form an opinion, and opinions that are formed over longer periods of time are usually more informed.

Sugar Kane is better than all of those songs except possibly Dude Ranch Nurse.

Swimsuit Issue is the least good of all of those, but it's also probably one of the weakest songs on Dirty. Rather Ripped is another strong album but Pink Steam is one of the weakest tracks on that album as well.

I would rank them this way (as individual songs, not indicators of the strength of the respective albums):

Sugar Kane
Dude Ranch Nurse
Pink Steam
Swimsuit Issue

In what way is Dirty a 'mature' album?

Well, when I say it is mature that is of course a subjective statement.

But I guess I mean that when I hear it I get the impression that they have somewhat abandoned the adolescent punk aesthetic in favor of more accessibility and song structure by that point, and the album is very well produced and mixed--also, the lyrical content seems to have more substance as compared to more "in-your-face" songs like "I'm Insane" or "Catholic Block."

Rob Instigator 06.14.2006 01:18 PM

Here aresome robinstigator cheeto observations

Sonic youth is the single greatest rock band ever
Daydream nation is the single greatest rock album ever
The first trinity of albums, EVOL, SISTER, and DAYDREAM NATION, are the greatest 1...2...3... punch in the history of rock.
all your opinions are wrong.

Rob Instigator 06.14.2006 01:19 PM

I have been rocking SONIC YOUTH for 20 years and I am their single greatest fanatic and I will forever proclaim their greatness and their vitality!

and Daydream Nation OWNS YOU!

krastian 06.14.2006 02:34 PM

Swimsuit Issue is heaven.

Rob Instigator 06.14.2006 02:38 PM

while my all time fave is teenage riot for personal and emotional and nostalgic reasons. quite possibly the single greatest sonic youth song is
