clipping the wave form is how the volume is added during limiting. that is why the wave file looks like a 2 x 4 if you rip it and have a look... the tops are cut off or "clipped" ;)

that is a different kind of clipping that would have occurred during recording, which is still a possibility in this case (but less likely).
