My cool DDN hoodie

I've bragged a couple of times about my super-rare cool DDN hoodie, and I've finally got round to having some photos taken. Here it is:

king_buzzo 05.07.2007 03:17 PM

Pretty cool

jico. 05.07.2007 03:19 PM

you already know what to wear for the upcoming ddn performances.

nicfit 05.07.2007 03:21 PM

Fu*k! I'm having one printed with the 4 symbols for the italian gigs!
Mine will be dark grey with black symbols and/or black on black.
Actually I don't think I'll wear one of those at the gigs...

jetengine 05.07.2007 05:18 PM

There is no such thing as a "cool hoodie".

Toxa 05.07.2007 05:33 PM

I see Sverdlovsk (Ekaterinburg) on your back... Is it true or my eyes playing tricks on me?

fluxequalsrad 05.07.2007 06:39 PM

fake.

krastian 05.07.2007 11:58 PM

Wow, in great shape too!!!

CHOUT 05.08.2007 12:44 AM

Very cool, why isn't there more apparel for Sonic Youth's best known album?

sonicl 05.08.2007 03:07 AM

There were the slightly naff t-shirts as well, with the album cover through the strings of a guitar (I wonder if they'll be reprised for the DDN shows in the summer?). But I'm pretty sure there was no other merch.

The hoodie was one of an edition of ten, by the way, or so I was told, and I've had it for 18 years. It was provided to a charity auction by someone from Blast First.

jico. 05.08.2007 10:39 AM

oh the envy...

back then... wich shows did you attend?

king_buzzo 05.08.2007 10:40 AM

I want the fucking signs big and on a t-shirt. that would be awesome.

yeah, you're a lucky guy. i envy you for that... not for the hoodie, which is nice, but...

oh well... i'm sure that the upcoming shows that i will attend will be equaly remarkable for me so...

sonicl 05.08.2007 10:51 AM

Nah, I'm not lucky, just old :D

I'm sure that you could find at least a dozen regular posters on here who saw that tour, and earlier ones. For instance, today is the 21st anniversary of the first time that Pookie saw SY live:

Date: Thursday, May 8th, 1986
City: London, England
Venue: Hammersmith

I wasn't sure if I'd ever mentioned that gig:o .

Two of the best bands ever, playing at the (musical) height of their careers.

I remember Pink Industry playing because I think they'd recently changed their name from Pink Military (unless my memory is deceiving me). I don't remember the Go-Betweens, but then again they were a pretty tedious band.

Sorry, but I immediately associate hoodies, ball caps, ugly oversized sneakers, etc. with the worst elements of the jock culture that's grown up over the past 20 to 25 years (and which has very little in common with the sports culture of the 1960's and 70's). For me, hoodies and the like conjure up images of extreme machismo, pointless apolitical violence, low culture, and ignorant little middle-class white boys (in men's bodies) who think they can scream racist and sexist expletives left, right and center because they've heard a few dropped-out black gang members-turned-hip-hoppers scream "nigger" and "ho" so often.

And No, I'm not one of those do-gooder "politically correct" types, either. I like my booze, tobacco and a good racy joke as much as the next person. A person just has to know where to draw the line--and be smart about everything; that's the only way to survive and look credible doing so nowadays.

(I liked your beads, by the way.)

krastian 05.09.2007 11:23 PM

Hoodies fucking rule.

Interesting historical document. There are some cities on your hoodie that aren't even in the concert chronology!
