First Favorite SY song

This thread should not be confused with what was the first sy song you ever heard, but what was the first sy song that you completely fell in love with and wanted to hear over and over. and you thought you would never get tired of it.....but you did hahahah. mine was "addicted to love" but i don't think that counts as an sy song... or does it?

schizophrenicroom 03.21.2006 09:50 PM

Cliche, but Teenage Riot.

Adult-Daypass 03.21.2006 09:52 PM

marleypumpkin 03.21.2006 09:54 PM

I'm gonna say, "Titanium Expose". I heard it in the skateboard video, "Welcome To Hell" by Toy Machine. & the skater whose segment it was, Ed Templeton. An artisitic man in his own right.

Richard Pryor on Fire 03.21.2006 10:06 PM

My first favorite was Erics Trip when I got screaming fields of Sonic Love

marleypumpkin 03.21.2006 10:13 PM

That was my first SY cd to.

John Violence 03.21.2006 10:46 PM

My first favorite SY song was Dirty Boots.

HaydenAsche 03.21.2006 10:47 PM

Titanium Expose

noumenal 03.21.2006 10:50 PM

Silver Rocket, but I haven't gotten tired of it.

CHOUT 03.21.2006 10:54 PM

Catholic Block! Heard it in an old 80's Santa Cruz skate movie along with White Kross (two perfect SY introduction songs in my opinion). I was blown away pretty quickly by these songs (and lots of the soundtrack featuring other sst bands). I held a tape recorder up to the tv speakers so I could have the songs on tape. Catholic Block is still one of my faves. So is White Kross for that matter.

stirling 03.21.2006 11:11 PM

I think it was the whole BMR album. That counts as one song, right?

My g/f at the time had Goo. RH had always give props to SY, so I listened. Not bad. A few spins later, I really "heard" Mote. Suddenly all the dissonance made sense.

krastian 03.22.2006 01:25 AM

I can't remember.

guitarpro 03.22.2006 01:25 AM

I've had many over the years but I guess the first was Bull In The Heather since it was the first SY song I ever heard.

Flen flyys 03.22.2006 01:27 AM

Schizophrenia

Everyneurotic 03.22.2006 01:28 AM

fishmonkey 03.22.2006 05:10 AM

did i say "teenager riot"??? fuckin hell sorry, you know i ment teenage riot, which by the oxford english dictionary is .... "a riot consisting of a group of teenagers"
probably not...

sonicl 03.22.2006 05:16 AM

World Looks Red. A live version was on a compilation LP that I bought in about 1985, and it blew my mind.

Trasher02 03.22.2006 08:34 AM

Mote
First song i heard by sonic youth and also one of the best i've ever heard
Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeechspickseffffffffffffffff fffuuuuuzzzzzz
i love the noise part at the end!!!

Hip Priest 03.22.2006 08:38 AM

Starpower, when it wasd released. I was 14. I've always loved rythym, so that hit me, but also I thin it was maybe I'd heard a female vocalist in that kind of a band (alternative stuff was much less prevalent in those days!) and that impressed me enormously.

I can't be sure, but I would have heard it either on John Peel's show or in Probe records in Liverpool.

Hannah 03.22.2006 09:07 AM

KOOL THING. And yeah it was the first song I heard. But I did want to hear it over and over again so it does count.

Mine is Sugar Kane, when I first bought Dirty and used to listen to it 4 times a day since at the time it was better than any other CD I had. Still a really good song, it took me a while before I realized what he was referring to.

fictionfriction 03.22.2006 09:59 AM

ahh, i remember this vividly (which is unusual as my memory is generally a complete sack of shit).

it was theresa's sound world, i remember hearing dirty and after a few listens i kept coming back to this song, there was something eerie about it, the chords didn't sound like anything i'd heard in any other song, ever.

there's plenty of other songs that i prefer to it now, but the otherworldly sound of it really made me want to explore sonic youth further. seems like such a long time ago now.

h8kurdt 03.22.2006 10:56 AM

Has to be Wish Fulfillment for me. Still love it but my favourite song by them changes every week now.

doctor dan 03.22.2006 11:24 AM

mine was actually free city rhymes. i just love how it seems to start with these strange abstract guitar structures that slowly morph into this amazingly beautiful piece. and then at the end it just takes off...

static-harmony 03.22.2006 01:26 PM

Mine was teenage riot after I heard it for the first time I wanted to keep hearing it over and over.

strictlycommercial 03.22.2006 02:45 PM

Sugar Kane was the one that put it in my head that buying a SY album might be a good idea.

Still has a special place in my heart.

Incesticide 03.22.2006 02:50 PM

Bull in the Heather.

Magublafix 03.22.2006 02:54 PM
