twin peaks returns

This isn't a good idea...

MacLachlan Plans Twin Peaks Comeback

16 June 2009 5:00 AM, PDT

Actor Kyle MacLachlan plans to resurrect his quirky TV drama Twin Peaks in short installments on the Internet.
The Desperate Housewives star played an FBI agent on the show between 1990 and 1991, working with legendary director David Lynch on the cult series.
The show was eventually cancelled after a decline in ratings, but returned in 1992 with a prequel movie Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
MacLachlan is desperate to reprise his role once again and hopes to utilise the web to help fulfil his ambition of a return to Twin Peaks.
He says, "I have a crazy idea to bring back Twin Peaks on the net as five minute webisodes."
But the star admits the show's creator, David Lynch, won't be involved with the new version as he is too busy focusing on his initiatives to publicise meditation techniques.
MacLachlan adds, "David's focus is more on transcendental meditation now."

I haven't finished to watch the entire series yet, but that doesn't sound very good to me too.

noisereductions 06.16.2009 08:24 AM

there were rumors some years ago that there was going to be a new TP series. Um... I cant' remember. But Mark Frost was heavily involved, and was more the captain of the proposed ship.

Antagon 06.16.2009 08:29 AM

No Lynch, no Twin Peaks! MacLachlan seems to have become very desperate to relive his biggest success. Short installments on the internet? Sounds like bad fan fiction to me.

atsonicpark 06.16.2009 08:45 AM

While I just want to reiterate that this isn't a very good idea, Lynch didn't really have much to do with Twin Peaks, aside from directing a few episodes (probably the best episodes!), as well as the initial concept. Mark Frost is the one who really had a say over the show, though even he didn't have as much involvement during the second season (both Lynch and Frost were busy with movies at the time -- "Wild at Heart" and "Storyville", respectively).

Still, Lynch should have some creative input here, if this is going to happen.

I don't see this making anyone happy.

jon boy 06.16.2009 10:55 AM

its either going to be spectacular or a spectacular disaster. it doesnt sound like a good idea though i gotta say.

verme (prevaricator) 06.16.2009 11:02 AM

i'm betting on mediocre.

jon boy 06.16.2009 11:22 AM

and that^

alteredcourse 06.16.2009 11:54 AM

It could be OK. Maybe being Dale Cooper for a couple years really inspired Maclaughlin, and he's had some ideas of his own in the time since. When I see them, I'm just not going to have any expectations or hold it too close to the past. I'll watch it like its its own, new, present thing.

max 06.16.2009 11:54 AM

^ mediocre, aye

and MacLachlan didn't even want to be heavily involved w/ FIRE WALK WITH ME, to begin with!

atsonicpark 06.16.2009 11:58 AM

I mean, he hasn't played that role in 18 years. This is just silly to me. We'll see, though... but yeah, can't see this making anyone happy, I agree.

MacLachlan stares at his own image reflected in a mirror is the last scene of Twin Peaks series. But in the MIrror there wasn't the image of the agent Cooper... brr...
No Lynch, No Twin Peaks

atsonicpark 06.16.2009 12:06 PM

I dunno if I ever said this, but if I had seen twin peaks before I started posting on this board, my username definitely would have been How's Annie?

jon boy 06.16.2009 12:15 PM

the guy who plays guitar in franx ferdinand could take the role.

radarmaker 06.16.2009 12:57 PM

Jesus fuck, say it ain't so :/

noisereductions 06.16.2009 01:04 PM

I'm gonna put somebody in my deathbag.

dirty bunny 06.16.2009 02:23 PM

transcendental meditation?

That show was definitely one of the oddest, improbable, and captivating thing on TV for a while. The idea of 5 minute episodes seems strange. But I am intrigued, so if it happens, I'll have to check it out.

sarramkrop 06.16.2009 02:42 PM

The spirit of the show was to keep it like an ongoing thing, hopefully that will be a priority as well as the quick buck to be made.

acdc518 06.16.2009 04:10 PM

goddammit

Better_Than_Deux 06.16.2009 05:51 PM

i wish people could come up with new ideas instead of holding on so tight to old ones.

alteredcourse 06.17.2009 04:42 AM

What I'm reminded of about Twin Peaks is a couple years ago when I took two weeks off work curled up with clutched fists and spent the entirety watching both seasons and fire walk with me. I'm glad it was there at the time.

atsonicpark 06.17.2009 06:03 AM

I took vacation from work too when I watched it! Me and a buddy watched the entire thing -- movie and pilot and all -- in just a few days. We had a prescription of Hydrocodeine. We barely slept. We disconnected the phone, covered all the windows and doors, had a fog machine going (I'm not even kidding) and watched Twin Peaks nearly full blast out of some huge speakers, on a huge tv. We kinda camped out in his living room watching all this shit, with no real distractions. His girlfriend got pissed, but it was one of the best things I've ever done. I miss having time to do that shit. (about a month later, we attempted to play a 24 hour drone concert but only played about half of it)

Tokolosh 06.17.2009 07:36 AM

A fog machine would literally create a good atmosphere for Eraserhead.
Hearing the shhhhhhh! sound every few minutes would probably drive me nuts after an episode or two.

Weirdos. :-)

atsonicpark 06.17.2009 07:48 AM

At the risk of sounding redundant, "octave numbers" after the note name help clarify which octave
the note is to be played in. To play a C major 7th on the third octave, we would write:
C3,E3,G3,B3. To play it an octave higher we would write: C4,E4,G4,B4.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.17.2009 02:40 PM

If David Lynch was involved and it was an actual resurrection of the TV show I'd dig it, but this just sounds stupid.

Twin Peaks would probably be successful now. Look at all the shows it has influenced that are madly successful- Lost, BSG, Life on Mars, bla bla bla.

Prisstina 06.18.2009 09:29 AM

Equally pissed about the supposed Arrested Development movie in the works.

atsonicpark 06.18.2009 09:30 AM

I love twin peaks but theres no way this could be good, I thought fire walk with me was abit shit but i'm sure this would make it seem great. The last time i saw kyle was in that film with 4 screens and he looked a bit old to pick up from where they left off.

I don't think I've been the same after watching bob attack and lick that girls face when i was tripping. I FUCKING HATE BOB!

al shabbray 06.18.2009 10:52 AM

oh fuck-ness
this is like killing the immortal holy cow of a TV series. I dont want that!!!!
NO NO NO!

Shifty Prophet 06.18.2009 11:06 AM

In David Lynch related news, has anyone checked out his interview series on his website, the ones I've seen range from homeless people in the middle of nowhere to tourists passing through areas, very real, very awkward, very Lynch.
