Berlin Columbia Halle

Hi Everyone.
Was thinking of to see the Berlin gig.
Can anyone tell me were Columbia Halle is located? Near the central station?
Rock on

there is no central station in berlin but lots of big ones. which one are you arriving into?

its in kreuzberg in the south of the city. the nearest u bahn (underground station) is platz der luftbruke. its very close to templehof airport, just over the road infact.

lukin 03.12.2007 02:34 PM

Hi Jon boy. Thanks for the info. I arriving at Tegel and then I probally take the train to amsterdam for some Pearl Jam action the day after. The train station is Berlin Zoologischer Garten or Berlin hbf

Do you know any low fair flight from kopenhaven to templehof?

Bal 03.12.2007 02:36 PM

how big is the venue?
i might be coming over for this.

templehof is not used anymore its just a museum and day tips flights. from the zoo take the s bahn to friedrischsatrasse then get on the U6 to platz der luftbrucke. its easy.

the Columbiahalle fits some 3500 people. It's not exactly what I'd call 'cozy' but it's okay-ish IMHO. It's got that certain 50s touch to it, for it was built as a sports hall by the american forces after WWII. They've got this, whats it called?, this archaic illuminated panel with those exchangable letters outside, which makes me feel kinda nostalgic everytime I walk past it.

jon boy 04.17.2007 04:45 AM

its not that great a place just a regular venue. not much else to say really.

Ye you could probally say so=).
Were in munich 12/6 and chorzow 13/6 last week.
And going to copenhagen 26/6, then Sonic youth 27/6 and the Nijmegen 28/6.

I tried to fit in a regular Sonic youth show for my "tour" but couldnīt so maybe i make a vivist to Prague or Vienna in august

Bastian 06.19.2007 07:06 PM

I'll be at the show.. if you see a guy standing in front of the venue with a sign "Drummer wanted!", that's me. :)

Bal 07.01.2007 07:19 AM

so
how was the gig you lucky bastards?

Bastian 07.02.2007 01:54 PM

Amazing!! :)
Did anyone catch a setlist? There were some songs in the encore I don't know by name.. well, I've not yet bought Rather ripped, so I guess they were from that one.

Bal 07.02.2007 03:18 PM

no pics nothing?

lukin 07.05.2007 07:02 PM

Wow!!. I was wachting Pearl jam in copenhaven 26/6 and in nijmegen the 28/6. So I saw that Sonic was to perfome in berlin, and bought a ticket ,to have something on the 25:th to do . And this was my top show ever. It beat the first time a heard PJ, and the first time I wacht My morning jacket. When the started The Sprawl, it was the first time I ever get goose bumb(is it how you say it?), and when cross the breeze was on I went totally crazy.

And the encore! I mean Incinerate and reena is the best thing they have done since Theresas soundworld. And Or sounded so much better live then on cd. And Bull in a heather is always nice to hear!

But the thing the did this to the best concert experience for me was the sound.
Columbia halle was the greatest concert place Iīve been to. As said before just to hear The Sprawl fill out the whole place! I mean I donīt think that would happen to me again

stadtgorilla 07.08.2007 06:50 PM

setlist (encores):
incinerate
reena
bull in the heather
jams run free
pink steam
or

all apart from bull in the heather (washing machine) being from rather ripped.

i can only repeat what lukin said about columbiahalle. best concert venue i've ever been to. amazing sound. i was standing on the gallery looking down on the stage...so good. it was the second time i saw the ddn show, i've been to the munich show before (my hometown), but berlin was way better! they had a ridiculous sound limit in munich, the audience in berlin was way more into it, and you could feel that the band is getting better and better in performing those old songs with every time they're playing them...so i'm very excited about going to london sept. 1.

ah yes...they were filming the entire show for a dvd-release!

please don't get this wrong: i almost (ALMOST) liked the newer tunes better, not because i like them better as tunes but because the band seems more into them in a way...thurston said something like:'this is more like the 21th century now' after the first encore.

don't get me wrong: this was maybe the best gig i've ever been at, there were moments during eliminator jr. or hey joni that were so good i almost forgot where i was...pure sonic bliss...like the world imploding or sth.

For real!!?????
Just to watch the best concert ever, but then to have on dvd, it canīt be true

greenlight 07.09.2007 02:47 PM

thanks for info.

any pics., recordings, youtube links?

btw, bull in the heather is from EJSTANS. i'd be happy for some WM encore.

i noticed a lot of cameras floating around, onstage as well. is this confirmed in any way or is it wishful thinking at this point? that concert was pretty amazing, so if they got good shots from it, it would definitely blow minds as a DVD release...

there are quite a few clips up at youtube, but i was wondering if anyone so far got a hold of an audio recording of the show?
