What city is on the Bad Moon Rising cover

??????

demonrail666 07.05.2007 07:07 AM

i think its new york. he said ... unimaginatively.

screamingskull 07.05.2007 07:08 AM

really? it could be new york, it's just not a recognizable place from the buildings.

demonrail666 07.05.2007 07:32 AM

I thought it was a bit of open ground just by the bowery. but i could well be wrong.

Tokolosh 07.05.2007 07:41 AM

If I'm not mistaken, you can see the Chrysler building and Empire State building on the left side of the scarecrow in the distance.
The two pointed ones.

Danny Himself 07.05.2007 08:15 AM

I always assumed it was Hoboken, it looks that grim.. but Tokolosh is right, there's the Empire State and Chrysler buildings.

Washing Machine 07.05.2007 08:18 AM

Wherever it is, its still one of the most perfect pictures ever taken

screamingskull 07.05.2007 08:53 AM

oh yeah, i see them!

ad yes its a fantastic photograph. sonic youth's best album cover.

Washing Machine 07.05.2007 09:18 AM

well its my second favourite album cover after Daydream Nation. That Richter painting is one of my favourite paintings. I would like to see SY return to making iconic, haunting album covers again.

jon boy 07.05.2007 12:07 PM

its brooklyn.

screamingskull 07.05.2007 12:08 PM

is it? are you sure? are those buildings in the background the chrysler and empire state buildings?

jon boy 07.05.2007 12:13 PM

its brooklyn for sure, not manhatten.

screamingskull 07.05.2007 12:14 PM

i wonder if someone could find a picture of those three main buildings to the right of the cover

there's got to be some NYC boardies who will recognize those buildings.
Doe's anyone know the story behind the cover?

jon boy 07.05.2007 01:07 PM

Androol 07.05.2007 01:19 PM

i don't know where the shot was taken. but do i look out the window at the empire state building every day, and it ain't in that picture.

hirsute_biped 07.05.2007 07:21 PM

my buddy is working as a photo assistant to the photographer who took that shot. i forget the dude's name at the moment. he's in LA now, UCLA photo dept. head i think. our other friend studied photo w/ barbara ess from Y Pants too. so in the kevin bacon game, i am three degrees seperated from SY i guess...

CHOUT 07.06.2007 02:21 AM

James Welling right?

One of my all time favorite album covers, and my all time favorite SY cover. I have a poster of it.

Washing Machine 07.06.2007 10:55 AM

I really want that Bad Mood Rising poster, where can you get them?

CHOUT 07.06.2007 11:10 AM

I won it in a lot of about 10 old sonic youth posters on ebay, along with goo, sister, evol, daydream nation posters...It's only the second one I've ever seen. It's possible that it's a bootleg since the resolution isn't the best, but I'm not complaining.

jon boy 07.06.2007 11:22 AM

its not from the picture i posted but its mentioned in the confusion is next book that it was brooklyn.

Yes!

I always thought the idea of a scarecrow with an exploding jack o'lantern head on the outskirts of NYC was a very comic-book idea. It reeks of Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, etc.

Rob Instigator 06.17.2014 12:02 PM

it reeks of AMERICA

dasx 06.18.2014 12:19 AM

I haven't listened to Bad Moon Rising for a while. Maybe it's time to put it on the plate and spin the black circle.

NYCgaf16 04.29.2020 07:12 AM

it's nyc. lee said that in many interviews.... i think
