10/10 for Lee Is Free Top 40 Squeeze... it's one of my all time favourite sound pieces.

I would urge people to listen to Contre Le Sexisme for the same reasons... Kim's voice is used as an instrument too.

badgercorn 09.19.2006 01:15 PM

I agree with every single one of those. I'd also add Snare,Girl

greenlight 09.19.2006 01:45 PM

I Dreamed I Dream
wish they had done more songs like this, with the dual vocals.
If I only knew where I last left the CD, I would listen to it right now

Toxa 09.19.2006 02:11 PM

unwind & peace attack

pantophobia 09.19.2006 02:16 PM

Ghost Bitch

gets too much condemnation, it is really a great eerie song

fluxequalsrad 09.19.2006 03:42 PM

Peace Attack for sure.
Hits of Sunshine

Cantankerous 09.19.2006 03:46 PM

white kross

Asim 09.19.2006 03:54 PM

'Cross the Breeze, or Inhuman. Cross the Breeze until you realize it is thee greatest song and Inhuman until you learn it's actually a pop song (along with CIS, because that also is a pop record).

el duderino 09.19.2006 04:10 PM

J.C.

The best example of structured noise in their career IMO. Throughout the whole song the guitars seem to be teetering on the edge of unorganised chaos, but its only near the end when kim's vocals stop that they actually fall off the edge. Its also one of the only songs by anyone thats made me actually cry just due to its sheer beauty (and i'm not an emo!)

Danny Himself 09.19.2006 04:31 PM

Hmm. 'Sweet Shine'.

lunberg 09.19.2006 04:39 PM

Peace Attack - great drummin and jammin
Dude ranch Nurse - one of kim's greatest songs, may sound dull at first but there's a lot of great intricate guitar work on it
Free city rhymes - one of the song that makes you doubt if that muthafuckin Brent diCredenzo (that arrogant guy from pitchfork) gave a listen before bashing the record...

cross the breeze is indeed just fucking fantabulicious song.

I think we should all go back and re-listen to

MOTE

It is the greatest lee song, the most yin yang split of 4 minutes of song and 4 minutes of skronk, the most beautiful spacious skronk around. I love lee's skronk

Peterpuff 09.19.2006 10:54 PM

I was gonna say how much I loved Toxa..then I saw that Finding Nobody put it in bold...but...

UNWIND ...for sure! For years I have thought I was the only poster here who realized the fucking BEAUTY of this song.

One of the BEST Sonic Youth builds of any song...The way each instrument slowly adds to itself...the shake of Steve's maracas (spelling?) The Steve/Thurston harmonizing...the slow, wonderful note bends...man...there is just so much to love about this song...best melody/build/atmosphere...just everything.

Kudos guys...glad to see others choose this one!

HaydenAsche 09.20.2006 12:44 AM

Cross the Breeze is the only Sonic Youth song that is always in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. It's fantastic.

yeah, i find it interesting that even though I own the entire Sonic Youth catalogue and have been an avid fan for years, that there're still a couple songs that surprise me when I go back and relisten to records. It's like "Wait, did I really ever listen to this song?"

Rob Instigator 09.20.2006 04:11 PM

hey man, DIAMOND SEA will be played at MY funeral, and the whole funerla will consist of diamond sea and my casket and the whole thing must be played and honored and then when it is finished the funeral is finished.
