what should Sonic Youth do?

as it seems with the firings of a&r reps at interscope, it seems like SY are no longer wanted after their 6 album deal has expired

so what are your thoughts?

HaydenAsche 10.26.2006 10:27 PM

Die.

atari 2600 10.26.2006 10:29 PM

They'll manage.

What immediately springs to mind though is (although I do realize that business is business) that the higher-ups at DGC/Interscope are fools if they proceed to dump the most important band of the last (over) twenty-five years.

Savage Clone 10.26.2006 10:32 PM

They would do fine if they went completely self-contained.

krastian 10.27.2006 12:50 AM

Everything through SYR.....Ecstatic would be more likely though.

Richard Pryor on Fire 10.27.2006 12:56 AM

I think they should make amends with Steve Albini and get on Touch and Go!

Cuz it's very likely.

Tokolosh 10.27.2006 03:43 AM

Like Savage said: Self-contained. They'll survive.

sonicl 10.27.2006 03:58 AM

Self contained, releasing loads of stuff on a subscription-only basis and occasionally licensing "proper" albums to a "proper" label. It's working just fine for Neubauten.

Moshe 10.27.2006 04:11 AM

I think they should go for a magor like Warner so we get loads of DVDs an EPs like the flaming lips fans get every now and then. We know that there is no risk that they will "sell out" so they should enjoy a large scale international distribution.

Yep, that's an equally brilliant idea, as long as the label will allow the band to continue releasing stuff like the SYR series.

static-harmony 10.27.2006 09:46 AM

Major Label, just like Moshe said.

Jef Mertens 10.27.2006 10:20 AM

Grand Lable. Majeur...

first up though: T and Lee's new solo joints. hope hope ____ :o:D

Hip Priest 10.27.2006 10:32 AM

Do it themselves and do as they please.

Yea....and to make sure they can still release the deluxe edition of Daydream Nation, plus the support labels give for continued tours.....

Hip Priest 10.27.2006 01:23 PM

The DD re-issue shouldn't be an issue, since Geffen will no doubt still be happy to make some pennies from the SY back catalogue.

I still think they should go it alone and find a distributer, but if they were to sign for a cred-label, how about Blast First?

king_buzzo 10.27.2006 04:07 PM

syr

youthoftomorrow 10.27.2006 11:35 PM

my guess is they'll either renogotiate with Geffen or move to a large indie.

Well they've already said they don't think they'll re-sign to Geffen because of the company's sacking a few people who were key to SY, so that would mean large indie...

Warp! That would be so fucking cool to see them on an adventurous dance label!
