Agreed.

What's wrong with someone wanting to sell their own property? It's not even like it's one of Sonic Youth's guitars, just a guitar that happens to have been signed by them.

Hip Priest 07.12.2006 08:24 AM

If Sonic Youth feel that they have been tricked into signing something by someone, then they could always try complaining to ebay, or whoever.

But aren't bands and TV stars etc always signing publicity material that they know will be sold on collectors/ephemera markets? It doesn't bother me too much, to be honest.

If the presence of my my signiature on an item increased your ability to sell it and the price you could command, Sn@ke, then I'd be happy to oblige. For 20% commission, of course.

sonicl 07.12.2006 08:32 AM

I'm with the Priest on this. I mean, come on, is an SY fan really all that likely to bring his brand spanking new shiny clean guitar to the band to sign? It's got to be fairly obvious to the band that an item like that is going to end up on the collectors market. And if some sucker wants to buy it, then more fool them.

Worth noting is the fact that, so far, no sucker has wanted to buy it.

actually i saw that on ebay like 3 months ago, i dont think it will ever sell...

Pookie 07.12.2006 10:40 AM

I want to know who won Thurston's shoes which were being sold on ebay! I was bidding but lost out by about one pound. It was for charity, I'm not that keen on having ANYBODY'S smelly old shoes otherwise. Would have been a unique talking point though.

I've never really understood the whole autograph thing myself. I like the idea of meeting certain people whose work I admire but don't feel any need to ask them to scribble their name on a piece of paper (or on my man boobs...it'll happen to you when you reach my age!).

kingcoffee 07.12.2006 03:03 PM

Oh come on!!!! Leave these ebayers alone! SO what if someone wants to sell something singed by famous people. Why do you think baseball card collectors have the players sing the cards??? To make them more valueable!!!! It's business, baby!!! Fuck all you whiny little bitches.

Well said.Commerce is crude and cruel.Get the fuck over it.

k-krack 07.12.2006 03:08 PM

i agree with HipPriest. people sell things signed for money, whatever. thats there choice. i personally wouldn't care (assuming i was famous) if someone made money for something i signed, i'd have a good laugh at it.

sonicl 07.13.2006 03:40 AM

Fuck it, if someone sold something I'd signed on ebay and got good money for it, I'd follow their example. Any old bit a rubbish I was about to throw out, nah, I'll sign it and stick it on ebay.

Who wants a pair of my old underpants that I've autographed? The bidding starts at £15.00.

greenlight 07.13.2006 06:09 AM

hehe, funny, i wouldn't buy it, but if i have my signed guitar by sonic youth i wouldn't sell it either. well, definitelly not for 500 $, hehe.

Cantankerous 07.13.2006 08:07 AM

free trade and commerce, heard of it? they can sell whatever they want. you don't even know that those are actually their signatures.

createsounds 07.13.2006 08:48 AM

that guitar isnt even worth the 590 its sellin for .. and theres no way in hell that sy's signatures are worth that much ... cuz like you guys said any one who realy wants an autograph gets it them self .. for the memory value right ... ?

Cantankerous 07.13.2006 08:49 AM

not if you're a collector, and that'd probably be the sort to buy something like this.
