SY: mic'ing amps in the studio?

does anyone know any tech details SY uses in the studio regarding mic'ing. I think I've seen pictures a while back, but none handy. It almost sounds like they use condensers opposed to dynamics on amps, and to a degree, mic at a more than standard distance..... at least on some guitar tracks.

Yo
you will find a very informative long article about the recording of The Eternal in the Sonic Scans thread. Agnello speaks about lots of micing-related issues if i remenber well.

What makes you think this? Could just be a 57 against the cabinet...

i don't know if the recording techniques change with each record, but i'm more interested on how they managed to get their distortion to sound so perfect on washing machine..

the "EQ" article (for Eternal) says it all, like you said....

Looks like they do mostly close micing, center of the cone as close as they can get, one SM57 paired with one large diaphragm condenser. I've had good luck with similar set-ups but like to pull the condenser about 3-5 feet away to capture the full, developed waves and a little of the room.

Sometimes their guitars sit so distant or sometimes full in the mix... they are getting mixed real well too. Good stuff.
