Haha, did they even know who he was?

Danny Himself 06.30.2008 08:00 AM

Ahahah thank you Moshe, that made my morning. :)

HECKLER SPRAY 06.30.2008 08:08 AM

"We want more noise at school !!!"

viewtiful_alan 06.30.2008 01:38 PM

Haha! They had no idea who he was. Partly because Lee is awesome and wouldn't brag about psuedo celebrity status : )

acousticrock87 06.30.2008 02:35 PM

It's possible they knew, but as far as the story goes it's just his career, so they can't really mention it. Journalists are obligated to treat that kind of thing equally--if they aren't going to bring up that this lady is a professor, they can't bring up that Lee is a musician. It's an actual ethical code in media.

Unless it were relevant to the story. Like if they actually were saying something like, "Make more noise about school," they could bring up Lee because it's ironic, etc.

I actually think that if they had known Lee was a musician, they couldn't have helped themselves from a sort of sensationalist "EVEN ROCKSTAR LEE RANALDO JOINS IN FOR THE PROTEST" or whatever..

In some cases, if he was already actually using it to better the cause or if he agreed to make it a cause, but otherwise they really could get in trouble for that kind of thing. It's the same thing they do to call newspapers sexist when they specify that someone is a woman but don't specify someone being a man. It could be called "career elitism" or something. They have to be really careful.

It seems to be a lot different in the US than over here then. Our news teams will do anything to sell papers..

acousticrock87 06.30.2008 03:02 PM

Haha. It's not too different. They get caught up on stupid bullshit but they'll publish scandals and shit like they're comics. As long as they get more sales than complaints, it's gold.

whorefrost 06.30.2008 03:22 PM

Maybe it's not even Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
