Moog part on "Pipeline/Killtime"???

Sorry that this has been brought up before but does someone know when the moog synth is played during the "killtime" section of pipeline/killtime? is it the very end where there is this heavily modulating wobbley sound going on, to me that always sounded like an effect on the guitar...

ZEROpumpkins 01.17.2008 05:34 PM

Yeah, doesn't sound very Sonic Youth-y to use a moog.

CHOUT 01.17.2008 10:11 PM

i wondered that too...maybe a guitar running through moog circuits...

atsonicpark 01.18.2008 06:33 AM

Eh?

It's clearly a Moog making that gurgly sound.

scott v 01.18.2008 09:59 AM

well a moog can sound like alot of things, and perhaps vice versa. not saying that its isn't a moog though... when i hear live versions of "pipeline/killtime" the ending doesn't sound to dissimilar to me than the one on Sister, live I think Lee does that vibrato/wah effect...

moik 01.18.2008 10:52 AM

ring modulator?

Chris Lawrence 01.19.2008 03:35 PM

i think the outro is a combo of thurston going batshit on the moog, coupled with a flangy guitar sound (possibly lee, i'd have to consult an '87 gig to see for sure), which is also reproduced live.

i'd check now but too busy digging new malkmus--yowza!!

Update- Walter set it up but Steve was the man at the controls for the take.

Chris Lawrence 01.23.2008 08:24 PM

Interesting, I wonder what made me think it was Thurston.. I was sure I'd read it in "Confusion is Next", but the one reference I found after a brief skim simply said Sear programmed it. Thanks for the updated info!

interesting indeed...
