What the actual fuck.

Okay, seriously, I'm in a good mood, so I'm going with this reaction: the guitar solo section is interesting because it features three distinct approaches. I don't think one player is better or worse than another (although these things sort of beg for comparison), they just have different approaches, which I find compelling.

I have always thought SY is bluesbased, like most of my favourite music. So this is quite natural. Of course nothing really new, but not bad.

Well, blues changes are ubiquitous as hell, but I wouldn't call Sonic Youth "blues-based". In any case, I find this extremely cool. And for the bluesloathers out there, back in the No Wave days even Lydia Lunch did an all-blues set of tunes picked by Robert Quine. So DIG!

evollove 12.22.2014 09:02 AM

There's a huge difference between fucking with the source material and doing this well-played but very unnecessary and cardboard barband version of the blues.

Christ Soup, do you even like music?

PS- Thanks for the link.

themawt71 12.22.2014 09:53 AM

in self obsessed and sexxee thurston starts the last riff off with a generic blues riff. the "party party party party all the time" part.

To me Blues not means that 12-bar or any other stupid formbased music. Blues is feeling. I think first SY & CIS are totally bluesbased-albums and Society is a hole, I love Her All Time, Death Valley, Tom Violence, Shadow Of a Doubt, Secret Girl, Marilyn Moore (really Bluesey), Beaty Lies In the Eye, Kill Time/Pipeline, PCH, Silver Rocket, `Cross the Breeze, Dirty Boots, 100%, Teresas Sound World, Becuz, Junkie´s Promise, Moon in the Bathroom, Hoarfrost, NYC Ghosts & Flowers, Disconnection Notice, Unmade Bed, Reena, Walkin`Blue & many more are just Blues to me.

this seems like some crowd pleaser stuff you'd see on pbs or live from lincoln center..its just odd to see T playing in something that is so by the book

I'm half expecting to see Elvis Costello or Richie from Bon Jovi band in there singing along

diskaholic-anonymous 12.29.2014 05:01 AM
