lee solo

i'm getting asked by various family members what i want for christmas, and rather than just asking for hmv vouchers i've decided to ask for specific cd's.
I have Monsoon and Amarillo Ramp, what other Lee albums are good?

blunderbuss 11.16.2009 04:08 PM

"East Jesus" or "Music For Stage and Screen". Or, better still, the "Drift" DVD.

EDIT - Also, "Envisioning" with William Hooker.

well I think FUCK SHIT UP is amazing. But maybe yr parents won't want to put something with such a title under their tree?

DanielCarlson 11.16.2009 04:50 PM

Dirty Windows is best. Like, best ever. Like, as good or better than many SY albums. It's fucking amazing.

jennthebenn 11.16.2009 05:15 PM

"Dirty Windows" is fantastic. "Fuck Shit Up" is seriously in the top 10 for
recordings that a member(s) of SY has/have had anything to do with.

pokkeherrie 11.16.2009 06:01 PM

I second East Jesus and the Drift DVD.

Or get some Text of Light.

Or, If you don't mind sending your parents out to search on ebay for your christmas present, the Outside My Window The City Is Never Silent LP is a good one too.

This Is Not Here 11.16.2009 07:03 PM

Dirty Windows is the clear winner.

How the hell are Ma and Pa, or whichever family members, going to know where to get Lee Ranaldo records from? If they're going to Amazon it, they might aswell just give you the money.

Genteel Death 11.16.2009 07:35 PM

East Jesus all the way.

when i was 15 and oblivious to things like certain records being obscure and hard to obtain (i thought you could order anything from HMV) i asked my mum to get me a lee ranaldo record for christmas and she got me From Here Infinity on vinyl where every track ends in a locked groove, so maybe have more faith in your folks.

Toilet & Bowels 11.16.2009 08:52 PM

my favourites are: east jesus, scriptures for a golden eternity, new life after fire

my second favourites are: the gift of tongues, broken circle/spiral hill, amarillo ramp

noisereductions 11.16.2009 09:16 PM

Yeah. My mom got me GOO DEMOS off of ebay when I was like 19.

SonicBebs 11.17.2009 07:14 AM

my mum and dad fucking rock
but yeah, they could just give me the money, but i remember being young and opening actual presents. I miss that. And besides, it'll do them good to do some hunting for records, especially Lee records.
that and i've become a mean old bastard...

SonicBebs 12.30.2009 08:42 AM

i got From Here To Infinity (and Silver Sessions and Jim's Bad Timing) from my Sister.
haven't been able to stop listening to Bad Timing yet.

Pretty much any of the Ranaldo/Hooker stuff is good. "The Celestial Answer" or "Envisioning" are worth checking out. Wooden Wand "James and the Quiet" had some Ranaldo action,

Have them give you an Ebay or Amazon gift card or whatever, you can pick up most of these quite inexpensively.

mil_pl 01.05.2010 09:50 AM

the celestial answer is the coolest

adjectives-ex 01.06.2010 12:02 AM

the Outside My Window The City Is Never Silent LP

ann ashtray 01.06.2010 10:00 PM

Dirty Windows & Broken Circle/Spiral Hill are my favorites.

I like it. I wish it was produced a bit differently. Sometimes William's percussion is a bit loud, drowning Lee out a bit too much.
