Sonic Youth Drummer Forms New Band
Steve Shelley partners with members of Ministry and Nachtmystium
Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley has formed a new band.
The High Confessions features Shelley, industrial legend
Chris Connelly (
Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Pigface), Chicago metal mainstay Sanford Parker (Minsk,
Nachtmystium, Buried at Sea), and engineer Jeremy Lemos of the band White/Light (he has worked with Bill Callahan, Jim O'Rourke, and Stereolab).
Metal label
Relapse Records has signed the band, and they'll release their debut album, titled
Turning Lead Into Gold With the High Confessions, this summer. Relapse describes the High Confessions' sound as "a real heavy, psychedelic rock."
On March 20, Shelley will perform with Lemos' band White/Light at Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art as part of
an interactive music installation White/Light has installed at the MCA. Shelley and White/Light have also collaborated with members of the Chicago band Disappears (recently signed to Kranky) on a single to be released on
Sixgunlover.
