So, I sent them an email, saying I apologized to them if they took the things I said PERSONALLY -- I'm sure they're use to criticism, but I don't hate them as people or anything. Just their music. I respect that they're doing something, even if it's something I don't like, and I said it's okay that I don't like it, because my opinion doesn't really matter... basically, I just didn't want a feud between my band and theirs. They read it, and I think things are a-okay between us!!

Weird, eh?

What's weird is that you'd have that experience and then still continue to talk shit about them when nobody is even asking about them or bringing them up besides you.

I doubt they're lurking on this board. I google about my band all of the time, and you probably do about yours. This board actually comes up pretty high in Google rankings since sonicyouth.com is a pretty legitimate internet site with a reasonable amount of traffic. So if you say a band sucks here, they are probably likely to see it. Especially if you say it constantly and in threads that have absolutely nothing to do with them.

Why did you want to be their friend on My Space if you hate them so much? Could it be that it was so you could leave a comment on their page saying that they suck? Is it any surprise they would want to prevent that?

Your obsession is indeed weird. If you hated, say Britney Spears, it might make more sense, as it would be next to impossible for you to avoid her music (let alone her media presence) or for that matter if you hated Led Zeppelin. The Magic Markers, however, don't even come up much here (except when you bring them up as in this case and point) and it's not like you would ever hear them on the radio at work or playing in Starbucks or your local pizza joint. They'd be incredibly easy to avoid if you really wanted to.

I consider myself rather fluent in the noise rock, noise, and experimental music worlds, and yet I still haven't gotten around to hearing them. Ironically, I wouldn't even be that interested despite Thurston's thumbs up, if you didn't do them the constant publicity of bringing them up ceaselessly and saying how much they suck. The only thing that stops me from going on some file sharing site and checking them out right now, is that I really have to get back to the Alastair Reynolds book I'm reading at the moment (Century Rain), and I'm worried if I did rush to download the group in question and have a listen, I'd probably think, "Aw they're alright, nothing special", which would be horribly anti-climactic after all you've built them up.
