I think everyone in the band was bored. It's been obvious they've all been more interested in their work outside of SY for several years. I'm sure Lee hasn't been forced to reduce his lunch to Ramen.
And it wasn't much of a "public betrayal" until someone chose to make it as such. I mean, in all fairness here....
