Well, I've been saying for some time now that the sheer bulk of their solo and side-project releases have actually been eating into the success of their 'mainstream' releases. When they were releasing stuff like
Daydream Nation,
The Whitey Album,
Goo,
Dirty, etc., there were very few of these (usually) limited-edition side releases for fans to pick up. Nowadays, if one is low on money, he or she is more likely to chuck their $25 on the new hard-to-find, limited-to-1500-copies side-project release than what he or she is, say,
Sonic Nurse,
The Eternal or (certainly) the more expensive box set reissues.
