Some films -- specifically the ones I watch -- lose a lot of their atmosphere in the DVD transfer. DVD's are a static image... they have no character.
I like DVD's... but really I could live without commentaries and extra content.. and while they're technically better, I feel more of a relationship with VHS tapes. Either way though, as long as I watch the movie, that's fine.
By the way, I own 630 VHS tapes and 180 DVD's.
