I suppose it was a bit harsh and put a few hairs on my chest, typical firewater, but I like that sometimes. There's not much I won't drink but G&T I'm not so keen, as el ingles tend to be. It's dry and tasteless and probably the reason for all those whacky flavours you see as mixers. Talking of English favourites I do like a strong cider but the acidity will rot your teeth. I did buy some metal straws in an attempt to bypass the mouth but it's a lot of hassle trying to shove a straw down your gob just to get some fizzy pop doon yr'neck. Italian aperitif is alright, but my new obsession (developed after a tour of the bodega) is Vino de Jerez, or what's colloquially known as an old woman's tipple of choice, Sherry, and Port for digestif, topped off with an Irish coffee of course. For humid days you can't go wrong with a Tinto de verano. I'll have to try Campari some time. ...but Mellow gold man, mellow corn gold |

oh hell! a man of culture. jerez, yeah, good stuff, i should become more acquainted with it. i like a glass of port with a chunk of stilton in the winter, but in the hot season what do you drink-- fino frío? i should ask the winedealer. tinto de verano i never heard off-- thanks--oh like sangría the internet says. mmmm/// good anyway, proper amaros, i like cynar (made with artichoke) and my go-to i always have a bottle in case of indigestion hahahha is fernet branca (the funky branca, !!!) i guess campari is not an amaro after all but it's bitter and amazing. used to taste better when it was made with proper beetlejuice (cochineal) if i recall my childhood correctly. the vegans then demanded a different coloring (boo). anyway mixed with red vermouth for the milano-torino, americano (+water), and negroni (+gin). also a serial killer in a german tv show drank campari and orange hahahs. there is also a spritz with prosecco and suprisingly adds well to a bland lager beer. yeah for real campari and birra or whatever another one that will make a good spritz or bland beer additive is aperol which looks a radioactive orange and is sweeter than campari. i like it less but it's good anyway kinda citrusy im giving rotgut a wide berth since a case of acute pancreatitis gave me an unpleasant 3 days plus recovery time eating disgusting american cereal. it was due to mild food poisoning from pork, not alcohol, but one has to take care of the equipment as it is multipurpose anyway |

Yes, like Tio Pepe with lots of ice. The Spanish live on this stuff during summer. The other summer drink of choice - Tinto de verano - can be bought bottled in supermarkets but the alcohol percentage is quite low. I like to make it myself with cheap red wine lying around to improve potency and taste. I noticed that orange looking drink was popular in London when I visited recently so I wanted to try it when I got back home and ended up with a 2 for 1 deal in Weatherspoons. Turns out it was Aperol Spritz, served in these huge glasses. Needless to say I was quite sloshed by the end. Happy days, but like you say it's a bit too sweet, like some sherry can be. I prefer dry. As far as beer additives go I remember living on snakebites for a time, when getting drunk as fast as possible was of the uppermost importance. They consist of a pint, half lager, half cider, and they would blow your heed off. The lasses would add a dash of cordial blackcurrent thus changing the name to diesel. lol 10/10 thread, deserves more bumps. |

^Get ye'sell an expresso machine and never look back.
I bought a Greek red wine to try for the first time. It tastes more like Port than traditional wine. Foken weird man, but good, only, I couldn't drink half a bottle as intended so it's on to a Bordeaux red, and Cardhu. Nik Kershaw liiiive th'mora should be canny. |

The typical ingles drink for summer months is Pimms, it's pleasant but the alcohol content is low considering the serving sizes tend to be small.
Tinto de verano is right up there onthe best summer drinks list, but this summer I've been mostly drinking co-op fairtrade red wine straight out of the fridge. |

those macheens are large and heavy industrial contraptions that require maintenance and a constant abode. for the money, the aeropress does the trick for me these days, and the travel model fits in one hand. the control flow cap adds a crema of sorts-- not quite 100% there but good enough. ok you still need a filter subscription or something but it's just little paper discs i have the hario pourover setups in my permahouse and they are very nice and a great value but unwieldy for transport Quote:
ah pimms ok maybe some day besides the usual sencha and oolongs im drinking mostly some shit called athletic brewing beer now hahaha (no alcohol). it's a decent refresher after a sweaty bike ride for vinos, quasi-tasteless pinot grigio. or some sparkling water spiked with pinot noir or cab-- which would be like a tinto de verano minus the shugguh i guess but actually come to think of it sparkling water is what i chug aaaaaaaall day every day. the trader joe's one, which i still still remains at 99 cents per liter/quart and does not taste bad |

There was a Pimms kiosk at the Kershaw gig, I was eyeing it and all the colourful varieties, but ended up settling for a can of heed banging red stripe instead. Pimms strikes me as an upper class Wimbledon crowd pleaser. Still, one day.
Sparkling water is the devil's drink straight from the bog of the beast. I don't know how it manages to continue existing given the rankness. |

2 reasons i guess 1. it helps push along a heavy meal 2. it's a mixer (like "club soda") and so always handy to dilute things without altering i mean usually i just squeeze a fucking lemon in it but some really taste good. i like the flavors of san pellegrino and gerolsteiner. i can't explain why. maybe it's the salts. some waters even have lithium, serious business (i dont like the lithium waters) |

Jerez is quite a special place innit, I agree the vinegar is amazing, especially on ensaladas. I always use too much according to my partner, but there is no such thing as too much Sherry vinegar... I didn't realise you could mix and drink the bastid?! That was a good read regarding the Shrub. I have some Brandy so will look into knocking something up.
After a quick search I have found a recipe for something called Spanish Penny which consists of Rye, Maple syrup, & Sherry vinegar. Looking forward to trying it. |

Recently, a lot of homemade carrot, ginger and honey juice. When it comes to alcohol, I mostly stick to Stella, these days, because everything else gives me a bad hangover. Occasionally cheap white wine from Tesco mixed with either still or sparkling water.

I used to drink Stella back when it had a reputation for being quite powerful. It was called wife beater if I remember correctly. Ever since the alcohol content was reduced from 5.1% to eventually 4.6% I don't bother anymore on a point of principle and it just didn't taste the same, contrary to what their PR spin was. 'Less ABV, same taste. We recognise an ongoing health and wellness trend through moderation.' lol. The tax savings would have been astronomical but that didn't make the press release. It does look like there was an unfiltered 5% version released after the backlash to these lovely corporates trying to control people's drinking habits but I am yet to try.
Recently I've been drinking a tropical IPA called Growling Dog (7.5%) in the local spoons. Really get's the blood pumping, perfect for a round of beating up the family upon returning home. |

Something happens to beer when it drops below 5% that makes it far less satisfying to drink.
