When I was a kid, my parents took me to the anti-dictatorship protests of the mid-'80s. In part, I guess, because they didn't have anyone to leave me with while they were there, but I think my inconsiderate waste-of-oxygen father wanted me to be part of the "revolution", as he called it (there was no such thing; the transition to democracy was negotiated). The thing is, protesting involved getting shot, tear-gassed, or -best case scenario- hit by a water cannon. The cause was absolutely right, but taking your kid with asthma (which, incidentally, later disappeared, once I turned 13 or so... just like Kal-El!

) to that scene, knowing he could choke to death or quite simply get his head blown off, was unconscionable.

The chant you mention was the soundtrack to all of this. I never cared much for it as a kid; I listened a bit to classical music and some Anglo pop radio hits. Then, once I discovered rock & roll, forget it, I wholly rejected it musically as well - and that, in the end, is the only criteria that truly matters.
