I've been using the DV69 tuning of Sonic Youth, and although I've already opened a thread asking how they made the chaotic screechy noise in their earlier work, now i just want to know similar amp settings they used, because sometimes when i'm playing starpower, or brave men run, the fat string over powers the sound so the middle strings can't really be heard, I removed the bass on the amp and that helped a bit, but not completely, does anybody have any other ideas? or know?

Dude, I know what you're talking about, I used mine with almost no bass. My scale is this Bass 4/10 Mid 7/10 Hi 8,5/10. Try that. Bye

Isn't the key just to use really cheap ass equipment? I thought that was the key to the sound of the early stuff.

Personally, I'd just set everything to 11 if I played guitar.

wash the strings on pure alcohol before playing...

cheap pick ups, i use my brothers guitar (some cheap strato imitation) for their old songs, and it sounds 30 times better than my guitar with les paul humbuckers.. if you have a distortion switch on yr amp try full gain and moderate the contour until it sounds good.

why copy a sound when you can create your own?
but for experimenting reasons, maybe you can change height of the individual pickup-elements to get a specific distribution.
