NOTES
Deceptively subtitled "Volume 1" (it's been 8 years and a second volume has never even been rumoured), this is actually a pretty good compilation featuring extremely rare tracks from all of DGC's biggest acts as of 1994. A very similar version was released as "Geffen Rarities Vol. 1" outside of North America.
Sonic Youth's contribution is a track called "Compilation Blues", composed specifically for this project during the mixing sessions for Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star (same session that birthed "Winner's Blues" and "Razorblade").
Pertinent liner info: A total rarity. Unearthed from the Experimental... sessions. This track was supposedly laid down late the final night of recording when Butch Vig and Sonic Youth were confused about their existence in the alternative rock universe. A harrowing cry to all A&R geniuses (represented here by the mysterious Mark Kates of DGC), this bizarro side-trip demands attention and refuses any compromise. -- Thurston Moore
