A BIG 2008 THANKS TO: JAMES HOWE, KEVIN KESTERSON, HILAND HALL + PROBABLY YOU IF YOU EVER E-MAILED ME SOMETHING COOL & IT DIDN'T BOUNCE BACK...
The list of people who have somehow assisted in this site is massive and, unfortunately, undocumented. This page has been in progress for at least 2 years now and my records of sources are radically scattered. Of all the Sonic Youth sites I maintain, I definitely relied on more outside information for this one than all of the others -- if you feel you deserve a thanks credit on this site just let me know and I'll gladly oblige.
I can definitely cite some of my primary sources, though:
- Henry Weld -- Henry's meticulous discography documents from the mid 90s are simply incredible and without them this site would be a lot less detailed. His comprehensive archives are hands down the finest sources at my disposal and I emphatically thank him for his tremendous efforts. For an excerpt of Henry's work, see the "Other" section.
- Sonic Youth -- Sonic Youth distributed an extremely thorough discography (including band and solo work) at a special show in June 1999. This compilation of information was very useful, and I've provided scans of it in the "Other" section for everybody to enjoy.
- Wolfgang -- Wolfgang runs an incredible Sonic Youth discography which can be found at http://www.luxnet.at/sonic-youth/. Unfortunately, it seems to be down at the time of this writing, but hopefully it's not a permanent disappearance. His page includes extensive information on side projects (which this site does not), and more browsing/searching options. A must-see.
- Rob Vaughn -- Rob was definitely a trailblazer in the Sonic Youth online community, back in "the day". His work in the early 90's remains valuable today, and his discography is no exception -- another huge source for this site.
- Sonic Tooth -- Marc, who runs http://www.sonictooth.com has one of the largest, most impressive Sonic Youth collections online, which came in handy while checking various catalog numbers, and is the ideal Sonik Checklist. Dig it!
- Dave Benne -- webmaster of one of the greatest discographies available online, www.NirvanaDiscography.com. Not only did Dave graciously allow me to use various images from his site (Sonic Youth and Nirvana were labelmates, of course), but his admirable attention to detail is inspiring and his frustrating ability to change layouts every 6 weeks while I struggle with one aesthetically depressing format is, well, annoying. Check out his page to really see how it's done.
Also notable are Epic Soundtracks' 1989 sonic discography, covering the bulk of their 80s output, published in an issue of "Sonic Life" and of course Alec Foege's great sonic biography "Confusion Is Next". Also, special thanx to Jim Vreeland for hooking me up w/ the Bowery discog.
Looking for SY records? I've seen almost everything featured on this site at least once or twice on eBay, a site which also came in handy for filling the visual gaps left by items not in my personal collection.
