NOTES

  • This video is a must-have for all Sonic Youth fans. It was co-produced by Dave Markey and Thurston Moore and is simply hilarious. The first feature, "Lou Believers", was filmed in Hollywood in 1989 and follows the exploits of Thurston, Lou Reed (aka Joe Cole w/ a magazine cover bearing Lou's face taped on his head), and Nico (aka Kim Gordon) desperately trying to locate a movie theatre showing the James Woods film "The Boost" while simultaneously trying to score some heroin (for Lou, of course... and frankly, Kim seems more interested in tabloid articles on Madonna & Sean). "Rap Damage" stars Thurston and Maurice Menares (for the scoop on him, check out Sonic Death #6) as foul-mouthed rappers in search for the Hip Hop Rabbit in Hollywood. Yes, that's right. "Grunge Pedal" is Free Kitten's not-so-ringing endorsement for DOD's classic fuzzbox, featuring Kim and Julie testing various settings on the pedal while Mark Ibold reads a review of a Kitten gig and Thurston reads poetry from LP lyric sheets. "Skeeno Hardcore Rules" is footage of Sonic Youth on April 5th, 1991 in Reno, NV opening for Neil Young & Crazy Horse w/ a soundtrack by Thurston and Dave's hardcore band Society's Ills.
