she seems to be lesser known than other soul singers, but i think she's probably my favorite. a reissue of some of her songs was released last year and it's really amazing ("irma thomas sings"). i highly recommend checking her out if you like early r'n'b and soul. or if you just like amazing singers.

She is not so much underrated, just less known than the ususal supsects.
