I'm listening to The The's 'Dusk' which is heavily influenced by The Plastic Ono Band.Any other suggestions,without resorting to John Lennon records as such?

Brian Jonestown Massacre. Matt Hollywood mimmicked him to a T. Musically and appearance. Just nowhere near as good of a songwriter.

If you like the Plastic Ono band, check out the artists Yuka Honda and Cibo Matto. They worked with the Plastic Ono Band quite a bit
